Voices of the Restoration Voices of the Restoration Early Converts Doctrine and Covenants 4:4 The field is white and ready to harvest, both then and now. Abigail Calkins Leonard Abigail prayed for direction, because she wanted to be forgiven of her sins and be part of the Lord’s church. She was directed away from the sects of the day and towards the true Church. When she finally was able to read The Book of Mormon, she was ready to receive it. She and her husband Lyman were baptized. Thomas B. Marsh Thomas was a learned man in the scriptures, but became dissatisfied with the churches of the day, expecting a new church with purity to come forth. When he heard about Joseph Smith and his golden book, he wanted to find out more. He read the first 16 pages of the manuscript when the first came off the printing press. His wife was happy with them too. They were baptized. Parley and Thankful Pratt Parley and Thankful left their home to teach the gospel according to thei...

15 Lift Up Your Voices … to Declare My Gospel

Lift Up Your Voices … to Declare My Gospel Lift Up Your Voices … to Declare My Gospel How would you feel about being called on a mission to serve in the wilderness a month after you joined the Church? Parley P. Pratt was called to serve with Oliver Cowdery and Peter Whitmer. Doctrine and Covenants 32:2 Thomas B. Marsh was called even after less time than that. Doctrine and Covenants 31:3 Orson Pratt, Edward Partridge and many others were similarly called soon after they joined the church. When we have heard and accepted the gospel, we are all called to share it. Doctrine and Covenants 35:13 “Wherefore, I call upon the weak things of the world, those who are unlearned and despised, to thresh the nations by the power of my Spirit.” We see the truth in this especially with 18 and 19 year olds serving missions all over the world. Doctrine and Covenants 30:5 Members are asked to “open your mouth to declare my gospel; therefore, fear not.” Th...

The Easter Holy Week Study Plan (Begins on Palm Sunday) “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). We were friends to Jesus in our Pre-Mortal lives and He loves us. Please be a friend to Jesus now and always remember the Love He has given you. Remember Jesus’s example of love all through His life and especially during the last week when His kindness was steady, even knowing the cost of the Atonement. Our souls are precious to Him. (You can return for more links) Matt 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matthew 22:37–40: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Take five mi...

14 Jesus Christ Will Gather His People

Image
Jesus Christ Will Gather His People Jesus Christ Will Gather His People Early members had questions about the Gathering of Israel and the building of Zion (see  3 Nephi 21 ). There were other questions as well (as there still are today). The Lord welcomes our questions. “Whatsoever ye shall ask in faith,” He told the Saints, “being united in prayer according to my command, ye shall receive” ( Doctrine and Covenants 29:6 ).The Lord sometimes responds to our questions by giving us truth and knowledge far beyond what we ask. Heavenly Father has a plan for the salvation of His children. Doctrine and Covenants 29 Record truths that you find in section 29 relating to God’s plan for you (see notes below). Plan of Salvation For Kids Heavenly Father has a plan for the salvation of His children. Doctrine and Covenants 29 Why are plans useful? Remember when our family planned a trip to…? Remember when we planned a service? Heavenly Father has many things...
