14 Jesus Christ Will Gather His People
Jesus Christ Will Gather His People
Jesus Christ Will Gather His People
Early members had questions about the Gathering of Israel
and the building of Zion (see 3 Nephi 21).
There were other questions as well (as there still are today). The Lord
welcomes our questions. “Whatsoever ye shall ask in faith,” He told the Saints,
“being united in prayer according to my command, ye shall receive” (Doctrine
and Covenants 29:6).The Lord sometimes responds to our questions by giving
us truth and knowledge far beyond what we ask.
Heavenly Father has a plan for the salvation of His
children.
Doctrine
and Covenants 29
Record truths that you find in section 29 relating to God’s
plan for you (see notes below).
For Kids
Heavenly Father has a plan for the salvation of His children.
Doctrine
and Covenants 29
Why are plans useful? Remember when our family planned a
trip to…? Remember when we planned a service?
Heavenly Father has many things that He would like us to do
and to experience so that we can be happy and one day live in His presence
again; His Plan of Salvation, or the Great Plan of Happiness, helps us to know
what to do so that His plan can help us progress on His covenant path.
Jesus Christ’s atonement made salvation a reality for all
who believe in Jesus. (You can use the chart for D&C 29 and read the verses
with the children.)
Why are you thankful for Heavenly Father’s plan? How does knowing that Jesus
loves us help us to live with happiness each day?
For Kids
Jesus Christ is gathering His people before He comes again.
Doctrine
and Covenants 29:1–2, 7–8
Doctrine
and Covenants 29:1–2 1 Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your
Redeemer, the Great I Am, whose arm
of mercy hath atoned for your sins;
2 Who will gather his people even as a hen gathereth
her chickens under her wings, even as many as will hearken to my voice
and humble themselves before me, and call upon me in mighty prayer.

What can we do to help Jesus gather His people? The hen
gathers her chicks that are in danger. How can being disciples of Jesus who are
friendly to people help to gather them? We can invite our family to study the
scriptures. We can invite friends to go to Primary. We can have missionaries
over to teach the gospel message. Jesus wants us to love everyone.
We are gathering people when we invite them to come unto
Jesus Christ. We hope they will be baptized because of the great love we have
for them, and because the blessings of the covenant. Some will be ready right
away, and others may not be. But we can still be their friends and set a good
example of love; just like Jesus does.
Do you know who introduced your family to the church? You
might ask your parents or grandparents. That was part of the gathering for you!
How have we been blessed by gathering to Jesus? How can we help others to be
gathered to Him?

For Kids
Jesus Christ will come again.
Doctrine
and Covenants 29:11
Read Doctrine
and Covenants 29:11 For I will reveal myself from heaven with
power and great glory, with all the hosts thereof,
and dwell in righteousness with men on earth
a thousand years, and the wicked shall not stand.

He Comes Again, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaijn8jksPo
How does this scripture and the song and picture make you
feel? Are you excited about Jesus coming to earth again? It’s been my wish and
desire since I was small like you.
Jesus Christ invites me to help gather His people before
His Second Coming.
Doctrine
and Covenants 29:1–28
Doctrine
and Covenants 29:2 Who will gather his people even as a hen
gathereth her chickens under her wings, even as many as will hearken to my
voice and humble themselves before me, and call upon me in mighty
prayer.
Jesus is gathering His people to the stakes of Zion. He can see all the
dangers, and lovingly He is seeking out the faithful and holding them close to
Him (as if under His wings). We can become part of this work of gathering as we
testify of Jesus Christ and invited others to come unto Him and to help to
build up Zion.
How has Jesus gathered and protected you? He has spoken to
me of His love and invited me to repent and to feel His Spirit and know His
peace.
As you read Doctrine
and Covenants 29:1–11, look for insights (See notes below).
People gather to Jesus to escape the chaos and wickedness of
the world. They want to feel His love and protection. They want to partake of
His promises. They want to enjoy the company of those they can trust.
I can help people to feel gathered and not scattered by
ministering, and by being a listener, and by giving from my heart. I need to have
a desire to help my brothers and sisters and follow the promptings of the
Spirit so that I can do so with God’s help.

Israel,
Israel, God Is Calling
The
Gathering of Scattered Israel
President Russell M. Nelson said: “Now the gathering
takes place in each nation. The Lord has decreed the establishment of Zion in
each realm where He has given His Saints their birth and nationality.”
How does gathering in this way help us “be prepared in all
things” for the Savior’s Second Coming? (verse 8;
see also verses
14–28). See notes below.

For
the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices could be
helpful—it teaches some of the eternal truths behind several of God’s
commandments.
Look for spiritual meaning in the happenings of each day.
How can knowing that all things are spiritual help you follow the Spirit more
closely?
2 Nephi
9:39 …Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to
be spiritually-minded is life eternal.
THINK CELESTIAL
Focus on Jesus Christ. “Every gospel topic [is]
an opportunity to teach and learn about Jesus Christ” (Teaching
in the Savior’s Way, 6). What do you learn about His attributes, His
roles, and His example as you read Doctrine
and Covenants 29?
Jesus Christ redeems us from the Fall.
Doctrine
and Covenants 29:36–50
Use Doctrine
and Covenants 29:36–50 to explain why we need redemption through Jesus
Christ. (See notes below.)
The Fall of Adam and Eve brought death and sin into the
world, but it also prepared the way for redemption and joy through Christ. With
that thought in mind, read verses
39–43 and note words and phrases that bring you joy. (See notes
below.)
Moses
5:10–12 10 And in that day Adam blessed God and was filled, and
began to prophesy concerning all the families of the earth, saying:
Blessed be the name of God, for because of
my transgression my eyes are opened, and in this life I
shall have joy, and again in the flesh I shall see God.
11 And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was
glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have
had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy
of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.
12 And Adam and Eve blessed the name of God,
and they made all things known unto their sons and their daughters.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, in the
presence of six elders, at Fayette, New York, September 1830. This revelation
was given some days prior to the conference, beginning September 26, 1830.
As you read Doctrine
and Covenants 29:1–11, look for insights about:
Vs 1 Jesus Christ is identifying Himself to us as the Lover
of our souls. We really should be delighted to listen to His voice.
Who will be gathered?
Vs 2 Jesus will gather His people, those who hearken to His
voice, those who humble themselves and call upon Him in mighty prayer.
What it means to “gather” to Christ?
Vs 3 He will truly forgive those who are humble, contrite
and seek to follow Him. We need to remember to keep doing this always. Probably
the greatest sin is to stop repenting. We need to remember Him as we have
promised to do every Sunday of our lives.
Vs 4-5 When we repent, we are called out of the world to be
the Lord's missionaries. We need to testify of Him and His gospel with joy and
thanksgiving.
As we fill His presence we can truly be glad in heart and
know that He is here with us and that He is advocating for us to our Father. He
wants to give us the kingdom, when we invite others to come unto Him.
Why we gather to Him.
Vs 6 We need to practice our faith in Jesus Christ and be
united in prayer. When we ask in faith, we will receive His good pleasure.
Vs7 We are called to join the Lord in gathering His elect.
Those contrite and repentant souls will hear His voice with softened and
humbled hearts and be gathered to Him.
Vs 9-10 The day is out hand. The time is now. The Lord will
come soon, and the prophecies will be fulfilled.
11 For I will reveal myself from
heaven with power and great glory, with all the hosts thereof,
and dwell in righteousness with men on earth
a thousand years, and the wicked shall not stand.
How does gathering in this way help us “be prepared in all
things” for the Savior’s Second Coming? (verse 8;
see also verses
14–28).
Vs 8 If we are uniting with the stakes of Zion and if we are
worshiping and serving in the temple (a place of gathering for the righteous on
both sides of the veil), we are preparing our hearts and inviting others to
come to Christ, we will be prepared for the otherwise scary events that will
occur before the Lord's Second Coming.
Vs 17 We are receiving so many invitations and warnings. We
need to pray that more people will come to Jesus and soften their hearts. But
here the Savior says that He'll take vengeance upon the wicked, for they will
not repent. I hope that the gatherers can make a difference, and I hope that
many of them will repent.
Vs 21 Wickedness will be cast away. We need to trust in the
Lord's power for our deliverance, even if it so be by fire.
Jesus will gather the righteous on His right hand unto
eternal life; the wicked will be on His left hand, and he will be ashamed to
own them before the Father.
He died and was resurrected for us all. But if we don't
repent and live His works to do, we can't be like Him or like His Father.
Those so unprepared, will not have the power given them to
rise in glory.
But we must remember, that He is mighty to save, and He
knows the hearts of all men, and He will give each soul opportunity to repent.
Record truths that you find in section 29 relating to
God’s plan for you.
- Premortal
life (see verses
36–37)
Vs 36-37 in our Premortal Life, Lucifer rebelled against God
and he and a third part of the host of heaven were cast out from God's
presence. Jesus was chosen as our Messiah.
- Creation
(see verses
31–33)
Vs 31-33 God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ are both
Creators.
Vs 34-35 All things are spiritual to God. We are spirits
having a mortal experience. We need to learn to subject our physical desires to
the will of our Father. We've been given the gift of Agency, and that should be
used for righteousness so that we can be blessed with spiritual growth.
- The
Fall of Adam and Eve (see verses
40–41)
- Mortal
life (see verses 39, 42–45)
- The
Atonement of Jesus Christ (see verses 1, 42–43, 46–50)
Vs 1 Jesus Christ is identifying Himself to us as the Lover
of our souls. We really should be delighted to listen to His voice.
Vs 46-48 Little children are protected and have a grace
period where they cannot be tempted or sin. They are redeemed by Jesus Christ
from the foundation of the world.
Vs 13 The righteous dead, who have died in Christ, will
resurrected to glory and be like Jesus.
Vs 26 Adam, or Michael the Archangel, will sound His trump
and all the remaining dead will come forth from their graves, immortal
resurrection beings.
- The
Final Judgment (see verses
12–13, 27–30)
Vs 12-13 Jesus's Twelve Apostles will come down in glory
with Jesus to judge the whole how of Israel, even those who love Jesus and have
kept His commandments. They are they who will be on the earth during the
Millennium. The righteous dead, who have died in Christ, will resurrected to
glory and be like Jesus.
Vs 17 We are receiving so many invitations and warnings. We
need to pray that more people will come to Jesus and soften their hearts. But
here the Savior says that He'll take vengeance upon the wicked, for they will
