Are you thankful for the resources that are so readily
available to you?
1 Corinthians
12:1–11 Gifts of the Spirit
Doctrine
and Covenants 46:9 Spiritual manifestations are gifts from a loving
Heavenly Father to those who love Him and seek to keep His commandments.
For Kids
I can record my history.
Doctrine
and Covenants 47:1, 3 The Lord wanted John Whitmer to write a Church
History.
Aren’t you thankful for all the people who have recorded
histories that we can now read in the scriptures? What are some of your
favorite scripture stories?
Do you keep you own history at home? Do you record the
important things that happen in your life and how you feel about them? You can
keep your own diary or journal, which is your own history. You can ask you mom
or dad to help you if you think you’re not ready to do it on your own quite
yet.
Let the children all have a chance to tell you about what
happened to them during the week. Then help them determine what memories are
important to them, that they would like to remember and be able to share with
others, maybe even their own children or grandchildren when they are the same
age.
Did you feel Heavenly Father helping you this week? Did you
feel the Spirit teaching or comforting you?
There are blessings that come from keeping a regular
history.
For Kids
I can help others by sharing what I have been given.
Read Doctrine
and Covenants 48:2–3 The Saints were traveling from back East to Ohio, and
they didn’t have properties or houses where they could live yet. The Lord asked
those who were already there to help those who were coming, by sharing with
them and by purchasing more properties where people could live.
How do you share with others? We all have different ways we
can share.

For Kids
I can help others feel welcome at church.
Doctrine
and Covenants 46:2–6
Read Doctrine
and Covenants 46:5 We should welcome people who are not members into our
Church to worship with us. The Savior wants people to feel welcome and relaxed
when they are with us. He wants them to be able to learn and feel His Spirit. How
can you help people feel welcome?

We should minister to and pray for the members and investigators of the Lord’s
Church.

be welcomed into His Church and invited to receive the ordinances of salvation.
3 Nephi
18:22–23 We are instructed to allow everyone to come to our meetings and to
pray for them and their progress.
What difference does it make to you when you feel welcomed?
Moroni
6:5–9 We meet together to fast and to pray, to worship and partake of
the sacrament, to learn and to serve, to edify each other and forgive one
another.

We need to always remember why gifts are given. They are given so that we can
bless others according to Heavenly Father’s will.
verse 26
26 And all these gifts come from God, for the benefit of
the children of God.
Look for examples of spiritual gifts In the following

Solomon asked for understanding in knowing how to govern his people, the Lord
blessed Him with the gift of discernment in a wise and understanding heart.
Daniel
2:26–30 Daniel could interpret the kings dream through the gift of
revelation.
Acts

He saw the finger of the Lord, and then because his faith was unwavering, the
Lord showed him all things.
Doctrine
and Covenants 6:10–12 Prophets have the gifts of prophecy, revelation, and
seership.
Moses
7:13. Enoch had the gifts of faith, leadership, and teaching or prophecy.
How can you use the gifts God has given you to bless you
brothers and sisters throughout your sphere of influence?
Pay attention to your Patriarchal blessing, so that you keep
your gifts in mind and seek to develop them.

The Lord wants His Church to keep a history.
Doctrine
and Covenants 47
Remember that your role in preserving the mission history is
important. Ask Heavenly Father for His help to encourage you to finish and aid
you in getting it done. You’ve been being wearied in doing good things for too
long now. Make a plan and do it.
Keep writing your own journal.
2 Nephi
29:11–12 The Lord wants every people to keep a history. The world will be
judged by the records that have been kept.
Moses
6:5 5 And a book of remembrance was kept,
in the which was recorded, in the language of Adam, for it was given
unto as many as called upon God to write by the spirit of inspiration;
Abraham
1:28, 31 In the beginning there were much clearer records about everything.
Abraham had access to those records.
28 But I shall endeavor, hereafter, to delineate
the chronology running back from myself to the beginning of the creation, for
the records have come into my hands, which I hold unto this present
time.
31 But the records of the fathers,
even the patriarchs, concerning the right of Priesthood, the Lord my God
preserved in mine own hands; therefore a knowledge of the beginning of the
creation, and also of the planets, and of the stars, as they were made
known unto the fathers, have I kept even unto this day, and I shall endeavor to
write some of these things upon this record, for the benefit of my
posterity that shall come after me.

Doctrine
and Covenants 47

and where He wants you to serve. Have faith that He will bless you with the
gifts that you need to be able to teach and bless others. Pay attention to the
blessings the Lord has for you in D&C 47.
The role of a teacher. Teaching is much more
than presenting information. It includes creating an environment where class
members can learn and discover truths for themselves and share what they have
learned with each other (see Teaching in the Savior’s Way, 26).

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to the
Church, at Kirtland, Ohio, March 8, 1831. In this early time of the Church, a
unified pattern for the conducting of Church services had not yet developed.
However, a custom of admitting only members and earnest investigators to the
sacrament meetings and other assemblies of the Church had become somewhat
general. This revelation expresses the will of the Lord relative to governing
and conducting meetings and His direction on seeking and discerning the gifts
of the Spirit.
Vs 2 The presiding and conducting the meetings should do so
as directed and guided by the Holy Spirit.
Vs 8-9 Gifts of the Spirit are given to us so that we can
better serve each other and all of God's children.
Vs 11 It's important for us to remember that Heavenly Father
gives a gift to every single one of His children. It never says to baptized and
confirmed members anywhere. Like any gift, it need to be recognized, learn and
used for the proper purposes, so that the giver and the receiver are benefited.
Vs 12 and following: Are gifts are both complimentary adn
complementary. Following is a list.
26 And all these gifts come from God,
for the benefit of the children of God.
28 And it shall come to pass that he that asketh
in Spirit shall receive in Spirit;
Vs 30-33 If I ask God in the Spirit, He will give what I
ask, because I am being guided by the Spirit, or His will, in the thing that I
ask. Grow in faith and seek to do His will. He'll bless you to be a blessing to
others.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at
Kirtland, Ohio, March 8, 1831. John Whitmer, who had already served as a clerk
to the Prophet, initially hesitated when he was asked to serve as the Church
historian and recorder, replacing Oliver Cowdery. He wrote, “I would rather not
do it but observed that the will of the Lord be done, and if he desires it, I
desire that he would manifest it through Joseph the Seer.” After Joseph Smith
received this revelation, John Whitmer accepted and served in his appointed
office.
Vs 1-2 When the Lord calls us, He also qualifies us as we
repent and do His will, and He help us do those things He expects us to do, if
we proceed in faith.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at
Kirtland, Ohio, March 10, 1831. The Prophet had inquired of the Lord as to the
mode of procedure in procuring lands for the settlement of the Saints. This was
an important matter in view of the migration of members of the Church from the
eastern United States, in obedience to the Lord’s command that they should
assemble in Ohio (see sections
37:1–3; 45:64).
Vs 4 Bob and I need to get out of date and save all the
money that we can, so that we are able to purchase land for an inheritance,
wherever the Lord calls us to go.
Vs 6 We need a family home where our family can gather.
