Doctrine

come to Jesus, He will forgive us of our sins and make us holy.
61:2 O

hearts.
What does it mean to repent?

Truths Jesus teaches about Himself:
Doctrine
and Covenants 60:2–4 Jesus is pleased with me when I use my
testimony and my talents to minister to others, to testify of Him and to help
build His Kingdom. If I continue to do these things, I’ll be ready to meet Him
when He comes again.
61:1–2,
20, 36–38 When we are humble before the Lord, we will receive
forgiveness and the blessings of the kingdom. (Work on being humble; don’t wait
for it.) Prepare for Jesus coming back. It’s happening “soon”.

John
8:1–11 Story of the woman taken in adultery. Jesus is aware of
all our sins and all our goodness. He suffered everything Himself on our
behalf. He is compassionate to the repentant, the unjustly accused, and the
outcasts.
Ether
2:14–15 Like the Brother of Jared, we should count ourselves
blessed when the Lord calls us to repentance, because He loves us and is giving
us a chance to try again. We shouldn’t think that we can always take advantage
of that.

Doctrine
and Covenants 62:3, 9
Can you give someone an answer for your faith in Jesus
Christ? Why do you love Him?
Doctrine
and Covenants 62:3 Nevertheless, ye are blessed, for
the testimony which ye have borne is recorded in heaven for
the angels to look upon; and they rejoice over you, and your sins are
forgiven you.
verse
9
Behold, the kingdom is yours. And behold, and lo, I
am with the faithful always. Even so. Amen.
My decisions should [be] balance [by]
“judgment and the direction of the Spirit.”
Doctrine
and Covenants 62
The Doctrine of the Lord stays constant. His directions
are given in conjunction with Eternal Truths and Principles. Within that
constant framework, we can proceed according to the details and methods that we
can best utilize. So procedures might change and vary from time to time, but
the Lord’s doctrine does not.
Doctrine
and Covenants 60:5 Some of the Saints were commanded to travel
to Saint Louis. What craft they chose to travel by was left up to their chose
and reason.
61:22 Some
were called to serve missions; but, the Lord gave them the chose whether to
travel to their destinations by water or land.
Why is it important to follow the Lord’s commandments and
counsel as he prescribes? Why do you think that the Lord leaves other important
decisions for us to make?
Ether
2:18–25 The Lord supplied the detail that was necessary for
their physical safety and salvation.
20 And the Lord said
unto the brother of Jared: Behold, thou shalt make a hole in the top, and also
in the bottom; and when thou shalt suffer for air thou shalt unstop the hole
and receive air. And if it be so that the water come in upon thee, behold, ye
shall stop the hole, that ye may not perish in the flood.
The Lord also wants us to think of solutions and ask for
directions. He wants us to go through the process of problem-solving and growth,
so that we can progress, gain confidence, and become more like Him.
23 And the Lord said
unto the brother of Jared: What will ye that I should do that ye may have light
in your vessels?
25 And behold, I prepare
you against these things; for ye cannot cross this great deep save I prepare
you against the waves of the sea, and the winds which have gone forth, and the
floods which shall come. Therefore what will ye that I should prepare for you
that ye may have light when ye are swallowed up in the depths of the sea?
Doctrine
and Covenants 58:27–28 27 Verily I say, men should
be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own
free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;
28 For the power is in
them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do
good they shall in nowise lose their reward.
Signs come by faith and the will of God.

Doctrine
and Covenants 63:7–12 7 And he that
seeketh signs shall see signs, but not unto salvation.
8 Verily, I say unto
you, there are those among you who seek signs, and there have been such even
from the beginning;
9 But, behold, faith
cometh not by signs, but signs follow those that believe.
10 Yea, signs come
by faith, not by the will of men, nor as they please, but by the will of
God.
11 Yea, signs come by
faith, unto mighty works, for without faith no man pleaseth God; and
with whom God is angry he is not well pleased; wherefore, unto such
he showeth no signs, only in wrath unto their condemnation.
12 Wherefore, I, the
Lord, am not pleased with those among you who have sought after signs and
wonders for faith, and not for the good of men unto my glory.

12:37 But though he had done so many miracles before
them, yet they believed not on him
Mormon
9:10–21 18 And who shall say that Jesus Christ did
not do many mighty miracles? And there were many mighty miracles
wrought by the hands of the apostles.
19 And if there
were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of
miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you
he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be
God, and is a God of miracles.
20 And the reason why he
ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men is because that they
dwindle in unbelief, and depart from the right way, and know not the God in
whom they should trust.
21 Behold, I say unto
you that whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever he
shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him; and
this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth.
Ether
12:12, 18 12 For if there be no faith among
the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he
showed not himself until after their faith.
18 And neither at any
time hath any wrought miracles until after their faith; wherefore they first
believed in the Son of God.
I can be chaste in my thoughts and actions.
Doctrine
and Covenants 63:16
Matthew
5:27–28 27 ¶ Ye have heard that it was said by
them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on
a woman to lust after her hath
committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Doctrine
and Covenants 63:16 16 And
verily I say unto you, as I have said before, he that looketh on a
woman to lust after her, or if any shall commit adultery in
their hearts, they shall not have the Spirit, but shall deny the faith and
shall fear.
The Lord’s law has not changed. The warning’s in verse 16
are good. Even if we entertain an adulterous thought, we will lose the Spirit
and deny the faith. Adulty isn’t love, so we will also experience fear, because
our thoughts and perhaps actions are contrary to the covenants we’ve made with
the Lord. It’s best to not allow the stage of our mind to entertain anything
that the Spirit cannot endorse.
When we channel our thoughts to gratitude to our Heavenly
Father, and when we bridle our passions, we will invite the Spirit and be
blessed to choose the right. It’s important to be active in our devote to God
and not allow idle time to lead us away from Him. If we let virtue garnish our
thoughts unceasingly, we can wax strong in His presence.
How would the world change if everyone was chaste in
thought and action?
Support one another. One
of the great blessings of meeting together in Church meetings and classes is
the opportunity to get support from fellow Saints in our efforts to follow the
Savior. Many of us face similar challenges, and our common experiences can be a
great strength. Don’t be afraid to admit that you have challenges. Share with
each other what helps you live God’s laws and overcome temptation.

How do you take care of things that are special to you?

condemnation.

Doctrine

Pay attention to develop within yourself respect for the
things of the Lord. He overcame the world, and it is His desire to help us to
do the same.
Doctrine
and Covenants 63:58–64 58 For
this is a day of warning, and not a day of many words. For I, the Lord, am
not to be mocked in the last days.
59 Behold, I am from
above, and my power lieth beneath. I am over all, and in all, and through all,
and search all things, and the day cometh that all things shall
be subject unto me.
60 Behold, I

61 Wherefore, let all
men beware how they take my name in their lips—
62 For behold, verily I

the Lord, and use it in vain, having not authority.
63 Wherefore, let the

otherwise they shall be cut off.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the
Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, August 30, 1831. The Prophet, Sidney Rigdon, and
Oliver Cowdery had arrived in Kirtland on August 27 from their visit to
Missouri. Joseph Smith’s history describes this revelation: “In these infant
days of the Church, there was a great anxiety to obtain the word of the Lord
upon every subject that in any way concerned our salvation; and as the land of
Zion was now the most important temporal object in view, I enquired of the Lord
for further information upon the gathering of the Saints, and the purchase of
the land, and other matters.”
5 Behold, I, the Lord,
utter my voice, and it shall be obeyed.
20 Nevertheless, he
that endureth in faith and doeth my will, the same shall
overcome, and shall receive an inheritance upon the earth when the
day of transfiguration shall come;
21 When the earth shall
be transfigured, even according to the pattern which was shown unto mine
apostles upon the mount; of which account the fulness ye have not yet
received.
23 But unto him that
keepeth my commandments I will give the mysteries of my kingdom, and
the same shall be in him a well of living water, springing up unto
everlasting life.
25 Behold, the land
of Zion—I, the Lord, hold it in mine own hands;
29 Wherefore, the land
of Zion shall not be obtained but by purchase or by blood, otherwise
there is none inheritance for you.
30 And if by purchase,
behold you are blessed;
34 And the saints also
shall hardly escape; nevertheless, I, the Lord, am with them, and
will come down in heaven from the presence of my Father and consume the
wicked with unquenchable fire.
35 And behold, this is
not yet, but by and by.
47 He that is faithful and endureth shall
overcome the world.
48 He that sendeth up
treasures unto the land of Zion shall receive an inheritance in this
world, and his works shall follow him, and also a reward in the world
to come.
49 Yea, and blessed are
the dead that die in the Lord, from henceforth, when the Lord shall
come, and old things shall pass away, and all things become new, they
shall rise from the dead and shall not die after, and shall
receive an inheritance before the Lord, in the holy city.
50 And he that liveth
when the Lord shall come, and hath kept the faith, blessed is
he; nevertheless, it is appointed to him to die at the age of man.
51 Wherefore, children shall grow
up until they become old; old men shall die; but they shall not sleep in
the dust, but they shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye.
53 These things are the
things that ye must look for; and, speaking after the manner of the Lord, they
are now nigh at hand, and in a time to come, even in the day of the
coming of the Son of Man.
57 And again, verily I
say unto you, those who desire in their hearts, in meekness, to warn sinners
to repentance, let them be ordained unto this power.
58 For this is a day
of warning, and not a day of many words. For I, the Lord, am not to
be mocked in the last days.
60 Behold, I am Alpha
and Omega, even Jesus Christ.
61 Wherefore, let all
men beware how they take my name in their lips—
62 For behold, verily I
say, that many there be who are under this condemnation, who use the name of
the Lord, and use it in vain, having not authority
64 Remember that that
which cometh from above is sacred, and must be spoken with care,
and by constraint of the Spirit; and in this there is no condemnation, and ye
receive the Spirit through prayer; wherefore, without this there
remaineth condemnation.
