That You May Come Off Conqueror

Joseph and Oliver were not to re-translate what was lost in the 116 page manuscript. The Lord knew that deceivers would seek to destroy the work.

1Nephi 9:5 God knew this would happen and inspired Nephi to write a record separate from Lehis, for a wise purpose in Him.

Doctrine and Covenants 10:43 The Lords wisdom will always be greater than the cunning of the devil. His purposes will always be accomplished. He knows how to make everything work together for his purposes.

verse3 Be faithful and continue in the work the Lord has called you to do!

verse69 The Lord will always provide a way, so that the gates of hell will not prevail against you, when you are doing His will and His work. Im glad to know that today, because we see evil all around us and those who seek to usurp power and authority and call good evil and evil good.

See Saints, 1:5161: Ive listened to this while exercising previously.

As I pray always, I receive strength from God.
Doctrine and Covenants 10:5

Doctrine and Covenants 10:5 What does the Lord tell us to always do? Why?

We must pray always, so that we have the Spirit with us and stay true to the Lord; so that Satan doesnt gain power over us. Hell provide a way for our escape, every time.

5 Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work.

Paint a reminder on rocks to pray always.Leave them by your bedside or on your desk.

A Childs Prayer

God will not suffer that Satan shall accomplish his evil design.
Doctrine and Covenants 10:133

2Nephi 28:2223 Satan uses flattery to led people away from truth, telling them there is no God and no devil. We learn of the Lord in Doctrine and Covenants 10 that Satan is real and always seeks to oppose the work of the Lord.

verses 6263 God knows that Satan doth stir up the hearts of the people to contention concerning the points of my doctrine.

Ask Heavenly Father to shield you against the tempting of Satan and to bless you to always remember Him and His Son, and seek to do His will, so that you can be led by His Spirit and not deceived.

The Lords wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil.
Doctrine and Covenants 10:3452

1 Nephi 9:5Words of Mormon 1:7 Both Nephi and Mormon trusted in the Lord so that two records survived. God knew that the 116 page manuscript would be lost. Nephi and Mormon didnt know that, but they knew that God had a wise purposein having both records preserved.

Doctrine and Covenants 10:34–52 What does the Lord want you to learn from the Nephis, Mormons, and Josephs experiences about following the Spirit? (See notes below). You might also make a list of truths you learn about the Lord from these verses. How do these truths affect your relationship with Him? (See below.)

I have felt this in my own life as I have written in journals, being directed by inspiration to write something I otherwise would not have written. Whether that something established a truth and enlarged my testimony, or whether it will be beneficial to my posterity, or both, is always to be seen. I have realized the truth of what I have written.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Doctrine and Covenants 90:24 Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good, if ye walk uprightly and remember the covenant wherewith ye have covenanted one with another.

The Holy Ghost leads me to do good.
Doctrine and Covenants 11:12–13

Read Doctrine and Covenants 11:13: Verily, verily, I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy.

Play a game, looking for a flashlight and a smiley face. What words in this scripture are represented by the flashlight and smiley face? What do these words teach about how the Holy Ghost helps us?

How can we seek for truth?

Share an experience of when the Spirit confirmed truth to you. Allow the children to share too.

Read Doctrine and Covenants 11:12–13 And now, verily, verily, I say unto thee, put your trust in that Spirit which leadeth to do goodyea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit. Verily, verily, I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy.

How do we know when the Spirit is guiding us?

Heavenly Father wants to guide us through the Holy Ghost.

 Put your trust in [the Lords] Spirit.
Doctrine and Covenants 11

Hyrum wanted to know the Lords will for him, so he asked Joseph to seek a revelation for him. One thing that the Lord told Hyrum, in section 11, is that he could seek revelations for himself. So can we!

verse 27 Behold, I speak unto all who have good desires, and have thrust in their sickle to reap.

What do you feel the Lord is teaching you about personal revelation in section 11? What other messages does He have for you? (see notes below.)

Let the Holy Spirit Guide

Invite learners to ask questions. Questions often lead to revelation. If you are teaching your family or a Church class, encourage them to ask questions, and help them find answers in the scriptures. For example, if they have questions about personal revelation, look together for answers in Doctrine and Covenants 11:1214.

As I seek to obtain [Gods] word,I will receive His Spirit and power.
Doctrine and Covenants 11:1526

 Hyrum was eager to help in the Lords word of revelation.

When we obtain the word of God and seek a witness for ourselves, we gain some confidence in the truths we are learning. When we make necessary changes in our lives and apply the truths we are learning, we can conviction and testimony as we feel the Holy Ghosts guides; then we can speak with power and authority as we testify of Jesus Christ.

21 Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.

I need to know the gospel so I can help others find the truth.
Doctrine and Covenants 11:21, 26

Joseph had many opportunities to share the gospel with others, and because of his obedience and the missionary work he did and helped establish, there are so many people who have been taught the truth and had the opportunity to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Ive had many opportunities in my life to share the gospel as well. And you will also have many opportunities in your own lives. Can you think of some you have already had? Have you told a friend about Jesus? Have you invited someone to Primary?

Doctrine and Covenants 11:21, 26 What did the Lord tell Hyrum that he neded to do so that he could preach the gospel?

Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men. Therefore, treasure up in your heart until the time which is in my wisdom that you shall go forth.

How do we obtain the word of God? How do we treasure up His words in our hearts?

(Perhaps your children could role-play sharing something about Jesus Christ or the Book of Mormon with others.)

Revelation given to Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Harmony, Pennsylvania, likely around April 1829, though portions may have been received as early as the summer of 1828. Herein the Lord informs Joseph of alterations made by wicked men in the 116 manuscript pages from the translation of the book of Lehi, in the Book of Mormon. These manuscript pages had been lost from the possession of Martin Harris, to whom the sheets had been temporarily entrusted. (See the heading to section 3.) The evil design was to await the expected retranslation of the matter covered by the stolen pages and then to discredit the translator by showing discrepancies created by the alterations. That this wicked purpose had been conceived by the evil one and was known to the Lord even while Mormon, the ancient Nephite historian, was making his abridgment of the accumulated plates, is shown in the Book of Mormon (see Words of Mormon 1:3–7).

As you read section 10, ponder how the Savior can help you resist Satans efforts.

Vs 4 Work on doing things in a faithful and steady way. You can't finish everything at once. Don't run faster than you can, don't get ahead of yourself, and don't give up. Trust the Lord.

Vs 5 You have to pray always. It's when you get distracted that you get discouraged and think thoughts that make you drift.

Vs 14 God is so much smarter than those who want us to fail. He sees the end from the beginning, and he knows our hearts. His work will be accomplished, and ultimately the opposer's work will be brought to naught.

Doctrine and Covenants 10:34–52 What does the Lord want you to learn from the Nephis, Mormons, and Josephs experiences about following the Spirit? You might also make a list of truths you learn about the Lord from these verses. How do these truths affect your relationship with Him?

Vs 46-48 There are so many wonderful things that were translated for The Book of Mormon that were important for us to receive. The prophets prayed that we would have them. This record contains the very things that will help to continue to spread the gospel to the Lamanites and to all the world.

Vs 49-52 The Book of Mormon prophets also prayed for all those who would settle in the Americas and for all the people in the world. The left a blessing on this land in their prayers, that whosoever should believe in this gospel in this land might have eternal life; and that it might be free unto everyone.

53 And for this cause have I said: If this generation harden not their hearts, I will establish my church among them.

54 Now I do not say this to destroy my church, but I say this to build up my church;

55 Therefore, whosoever belongeth to my church need not fear, for such shall inherit the kingdom of heaven.

56 But it is they who do not fear me, neither keep my commandments but build up churches unto themselves to get gain, yea, and all those that do wickedly and build up the kingdom of the devil—yea, verily, verily, I say unto you, that it is they that I will disturb, and cause to tremble and shake to the center.

57 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I came unto mine own, and mine own received me not.

58 I am the light which shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.

67 Behold, this is my doctrine—whosoever repenteth and cometh unto me, the same is my church.

68 Whosoever declareth more or less than this, the same is not of me, but is against me; therefore he is not of my church.

69 And now, behold, whosoever is of my church, and endureth of my church to the end, him will I establish upon my rock, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against them.

70 And now, remember the words of him who is the life and light of the world, your Redeemer, your Lord and your God. Amen.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to his brother Hyrum Smith, at Harmony, Pennsylvania, May 1829. This revelation was received through the Urim and Thummim in answer to Josephs supplication and inquiry. Joseph Smiths history suggests that this revelation was received after the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood.

What do you feel the Lord is teaching you about personal revelation in section 11? What other messages does He have for you?

Vs 3 Pray for an increase in desire and the ability to serve more fully in the Lord's Kingdom.

Vs 4 If you get to work, you are called!

5 Therefore, if you will ask of me you shall receive; if you will knock it shall be opened unto you.

Vs 6 If you want an increase in faith, keep the commandments and seek to bring forth and establish Zion. Your faith will increase through working to build the kingdom.

7 Seek not for riches but for wisdom; and, behold, the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto you, and then shall you be made rich. Behold, he that hath eternal life is rich.

Vs 8-10 8-10 The Lord will bless us according to our desires. We have to preach repentance. WIthout change, we cannot follow Jesus. With repentance we will be blessed as well as those we teach.

You already have a gift to teach; if you don't gain that desire and ask in faith. Jesus promises we can receive this gift.

11 For, behold, it is I that speak; behold, I am the light which shineth in darkness, and by my power I give these words unto thee.

Vs 12 Jesus will lead us to all good. Trust in Him and in following His Spirit.

13 Verily, verily, I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy;

14 And then shall ye know, or by this shall you know, all things whatsoever you desire of me, which are pertaining unto things of righteousness, in faith believing in me that you shall receive.

20 Behold, this is your work, to keep my commandments, yea, with all your might, mind and strength.

22 But now hold your peace; study my word which hath gone forth among the children of men, and also study my word which shall come forth among the children of men, or that which is now translating, yea, until you have obtained all which I shall grant unto the children of men in this generation, and then shall all things be added thereto.

23 Behold thou art [Heidi], my[ daughter]; seek the kingdom of God, and all things shall be added according to that which is just.

24 Build upon my rock, which is my gospel;

25 Deny not the spirit of revelation, nor the spirit of prophecy, for wo unto [her]that denieth these things;

26 Therefore, treasure up in your heart until the time which is in my wisdom that you shall go forth.

27 Behold, I speak unto all who have good desires, and have thrust in their sickle to reap.

28 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world.

29 I am the same who came unto mine own and mine own received me not;

30 But verily, verily, I say unto you, that as many as receive me, to them will I give power to become the sons [and daughters] of God, even to them that believe on my name. Amen.
