Emma Hale Smith

The Lord spoke to Emma in Doctrine and Covenants 25. It’s a valuable section to learn about the Lord’s love for and trust in His daughter Emma.

Joseph Smith, her husband, also wrote about her.

Emma was the wife of Joseph’s youth and the choice of his heart. He is touched and moved by their life together. Their joys and the many trials that they endured together. He feels so blessed to have had her support and her continual comfort.

Lucy Mach Smith wrote about Emma.

“She was then young, and, being naturally ambitious, her whole heart was in the work of the Lord, and she felt no interest except for the church and the cause of truth. Whatever her hands found to do, she did with her might and did not ask the selfish question ‘Shall I be benefited any more than anyone else?’ If elders were sent away to preach, she was the first to volunteer her services to assist in clothing them for their journey, let her own privations be what they might.”

Joseph Smith, Sr. wrote about Emma.

Patriarch Smith gave Emma her patriarchal blessing:

Emma poured out her whole soul for Joseph. Because of her prayers for her family of origin, they would be brought to the truth. Emma’s life would be spared until she was satisfied. Then she would see the Lord, and her rejoicing will not be taken from her.

The Lord let Emma know that she wasn’t to be blamed that three of her children died so young. Emma was to be blessed with more children.

“Thou shalt be blessed with understanding, and have power to instruct thy sex. Teach thy family righteousness, and thy little ones the way of life, and the holy angels shall watch over thee: and thou shalt be saved in the kingdom of God; even so. Amen.”
